DRY EYE vs. EYE ALLERGIES
IS IT DRY EYE OR EYE ALLERGIES?
More often than not, Dry Eye is mistaken for eye allergies because symptoms can be similar. Both can leave your eyes feeling itchy and burning. To make things even more complicated, an eye allergic episode can aggravate a concurrent Dry Eye disease, making Dry Eye symptoms worse.
Dry Eye is a reduction in your eyes' ability to produce or maintain sufficient natural tears, whereas eye allergies are a hypersensitivity response to things like pollen, dust and animal dander. Different treatments are required for each of these conditions.
It’s best not to self-diagnose. Make an appointment with your eye doctor who can properly diagnose your condition as Dry Eye or eye allergies and provide recommendations for appropriate treatment.
